Mareas de la Seca Mill
The name of the Mareas de la Seca Mill, built in 1622, is due to its unique engineering and operation with the ebb and flow of the tide. During high tide, the water enters through the 5 gates distributed along the outer 50 metre dam. Then you have to wait until the area outside of the reservoir is completely dry so that there is enough difference between the dammed water and the dry area.
Then, the water pressure moves the milling machinery during the three hours of low tide. Here up to 200 kg of flour was ground by each of the four wheels of the mill in two batches, day and night.
In Galicia there are just 5 tide mills, of which this is the only one in operation. Until the 19th century it belonged to its first owners, the viscounts of Fefiñáns, and the farmers from Cambados and the whole region of Salnés came to it.
In the 70s it stopped working and in 2002, it was recovered by the Town Council of Cambados.
